SimplyMaya BMW Modeling

This tutorial is meant for intermediate to advanced users who have an understanding of the Maya interface and tools. We will start off the car by setting up image planes of top, side, front and back views to aid us in seeing the correct shape of the car from all angles. Once the image planes are up we will start modeling using a variety of different modeling methods including nurbs curves, nurbs primatives as well as polygons to achieve the basic shape of the car.

Then we*ll combine and edit the geometry to refine our shape and start adding details where lights are found for the contours of the body. Some of the tools we will be using are split polygon, cut face tools. as well as extrude face and edge tools. When the modeling of the car is complete we will begin setting it up for texturing. We*ll cover the UV editor and how to lay flat UV*s of your geometry using the tool set found in the editor. We will then take a snapshot of the UV*s and import them into a paint program where you will learn how to add color using layers as well as the basic techniques of adding stripes of color to your car if you wanted to do so in the future.
Once we have color on our car we will dive into lights and material editing so that we can start getting a nice realistic look and feel. You will learn how to adjust settings on your paint color material to get different effects as well as how to adjust your lights in many different ways to enhance your color by adding highlights and reflections. The last part covers how to do your final renders..

Visual Effects guru and particle effects master Allan McKay is back with another round of stellar particle effects as part of his latest training kit: Turbo Training: Advanced Visual Effects 2.

This time out, Allan has created seven new project-based tutorials that push the built-in Particle Flow particle system to the limit and beyond. With a running length of over 6 hours, this training DVD is aimed at intermediate and advanced users. Allan starts off with easier effects like creating a DNA strand out of particles, then ramps up to more complex natural effects including procedural lava and particle fire, as well as building a crumbling iceberg, splashing barrels and exploding tanks.

Ultimax armageddon is without a doubt the largest video tutorials set ever to be created at over 80 hours in length - thats pretty damn huge.

So, what does this set involve? Well, from the beginning we start with concept images created for us by Concept Artist Jeremy Love - the remit was to produce a 380 meter high mobile battle platform that could literally walk up to cities and invade using its own army. On its back are weapons storage facilities, power plants, even a full hangar (which was a great fun piece to model, you can actually walk through the inside of it).
The piece was created for a fictional TV-Show to explain and show the end user how exactly to create a complex “hero” piece for film quality work. The model had to be of use for closeup shots, for distance shots and of course easily broken into parts for individual scenes involving the components. What is interesting about this piece is the sheer scale - you can literally climb up the ladder from the rear of the heel to the internal leg struts, all the way up till you reach the torso where the rear is a maze of pipework and ladders and gantries all the way to the hangars and the bridge.

This four DVD boxed set will take your through a comprehensive tour of state of the art rigging techniques for 3dsmax. This series teaches how to rig and skin every part of the supplied character (an ogre modelled by Paul) and in many cases will show multiple approaches to the same problem, leaving you free to pick the blend that suits your needs. This series has been a smash hit with our customers and is very much a recommended purchase for anyone that has basic rigging under their belts and now wants to push their skills to new levels.

Due to the increasing and wholly necessary levels of scripting in the later DVDs in this series. A highly recommended companion purchase is the MAXScript Fundamentals Series boxed set for those that have very limited or no MAXScript skills.

DVD 1: FK Spine, Leg & Foot Rig
In this DVD Paul will take you through rigging the Ogre*s Spine using an FK system in conjunction with wired control objects. He then demonstrates how to create an inverse foot rig using reactor controllers and scripted custom attributes to facilitate a smooth foot-roll system. Finally we learn how to modify the leg bones using expression controllers to create a working leg stretch system.

DVD 2: Spline IK, Arm 7 hand Rig
In this DVD Paul continues his Ogre rig with a second approach to producing a spine rig using a custom Spline IK solution. He then moves on to producing an arm rig that demonstrates two unique methods for an arm bone twist solution. Finally Paul demonstrates how to rig a hand and produce a comprehensive GUI for it using custom attributes and MAXScript.

DVD 3: Skinning Techniques
In this DVD Paul deals with many of the aspects of skinning a character using 3dsmax*s Skin modifier. Starting with weighting via envelopes Paul then moves on to build on this foundation with weight painting and blending. Further control is then added via muscle bones, skin deformers and springs for dynamic flexing of the Ogre*s stomach.

DVD 4: Facial Rigging Techniques
In this final DVD in Paul Neale*s Intermediate Rigging Series , Paul looks at two completely different ways to setup the Ogre*s facial animation rig. In the first half of the DVD we look at the eye rigs dilation and directional controls, and then move on to a morph centric system that only uses a bone for jaw movement. In the second half of the DVD we look at a bone based system that allows for very fine an intuitive control over the Ogre*s features. A six hour plus DVD, jam packed with insights and a must buy for any budding or professional rigging TD.

In this DVD, Ian textures and completes the game cinematic character he modeled in Character Modeling for Production. In this lecture, he shows different techniques to UV map objects of various complexities quickly and efficiently using 3ds Max*s UV tools and DeepUV.
